In his new role, Dr. Machledt, an endocrinologist, will provide guidance on clinic policies, serve as an advocate in the local community and assist with volunteer recruitment. The longtime Easton resident has been volunteering at the clinic for the past three years. He is looking forward to continuing to use his medical knowledge in the community after retiring from private practice in 2012.

“Doctors spend a lifetime reading and learning about diseases and how to treat them and are dedicated to the care of their patients,” he said. “I was happy to hear about the AmeriCares Free Clinics, which allow me to continue using part of that knowledge and do what I’ve enjoyed doing for over 40 years: caring for patients.”

Since Dr. Machledt began volunteering in 2012, he has logged more than 165 hours. “We are so excited to welcome Dr. Machledt as our new medical director,” said Janet Yon, director of the Bridgeport clinic. “He comes with the skills, knowledge and compassion that will be essential in helping us increase services for patients in need.”

Nearly 500 low-income, uninsured residents of Bridgeport and surrounding towns rely on the clinic as their primary source of medical care.
