Kids From Stamford Family YMCA Help Seniors Decorate For Holidays

STAMFORD, Conn. -- The kids from the Stamford Family YMCA's after-school program will be spending their Tuesday helping the residents at Smith House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center get ready for the upcoming holidays.

The event with the kids from the LEAD Academy is part of Giving Tuesday, and the kids will learn first-hand how to make a difference in their community, Y officials said in a statement.

Nonprofit organizations across the country encourage charitable donations during the holiday shopping season, especially on the first Tuesday in December, which has been dubbed Giving Tuesday.

The YMCA also encourages residents to give back to the community and favorite charities.

Any donations made to The Stamford Family YMCA on Tuesday will go to support the Y's Annual Campaign. The campaign helps to make memberships and programs, especially after-school and summer programs for young people, possible for everyone regardless of their financial situation.
