“We hit our goal!! We can't thank everyone who has pledged enough. With two days still to go maybe we can come out ahead and then perhaps we can press a limited amount of vinyl! That would be cool!” the father-daughter duo said on their profile page.
“It's all because of the support of all of you and our awesome family that we have gotten to this point. Thank You, Thank You! We are honored and blessed.”
The two started their Kickstarter fundraising May 25 with hopes of raising $18,000 by 3 p.m. June 24. They ultimately received $18,522 for the album. They will now be sending their masters off to Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, who has worked with Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, among many others, and expect to release the album no later than the fall.
The duo recorded their six-song album last August with the help of fiddler Jim VanCleve, who produced the album and also assisted on vocals, the Kickstarter page said. The money raised will go toward mastering, cover artwork, duplication, a music video and publicity, the page said.
Dave, an accomplished composer and guitarist, began performing with Emma, 19, a gifted violinist at a young age, when she was just 5, the page said. Emma also sings, though it took a while for her to want to do it, the page said.
The two held off on recording an album until now because Dave wanted to make sure Emma had the maturity to see the project through to the end, the page said. He also wanted them to record their own music.
Kickstarter launched in 2009 and provides creative projects a platform to reach out for fundraising while giving the person behind the project full control, the website said. More than 4.3 million people have pledged more than $670 million to fund more than 43,000 creative projects using Kickstarter.
