These are just some of the 259 events in 152 Connecticut towns to celebrate National Trails Day this weekend.

Families can enjoy an educational walk from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 1, at the new Mill River Park & Greenway. Nia Rhodes Jackson and Milton Puryear will start the 0.8-mile walk from the corner of Broad Street and Mill River Street. Along the way, they will discuss the flora and fauna in the newly completed park and restoration efforts under way to develop future sections of this outdoor space. The event is sponsored by Mill River Collaborative. It will be canceled if it rains. Preregistration is not necessary. For questions, contact Nia Rhodes Jackson by email at nia@millriverpark.com.

The Stamford Museum & Nature Center will host an "Icky Hike" from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2. The walk will explore the world of living things usually considered icky and yucky. Hikers will visit the Rotten Log Hotel to discover the worms, fungi and other decomposers that help to make soil, search for snakes and salamanders in stream beds and vernal pools, and discover how icky signs like scat can tell us who has been on the trails. Meet at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center at 39 Scofieldtown Road in the Overbrook Nature Center building. The event will be canceled if it rains. Preregistration is not necessary. For questions, contact leader Lisa Monachelli at 203-977-6515 or by email at  lmonachelli@stamfordmuseum.org.

At Mianus River Park on the Stamford-Greenwich border, a trail maintenance event will be held Saturday, June 1, from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The Friends of Mianus River Park and Fairfield County New England Mountain Bike Association will join forces to lead a three-hour volunteer trail cleanup of the Mianus River Park. The organizations recommend hiking shoes, gloves and water. Volunteers will be guided along 3 miles of trail for the project. All tools will be provided, as well as refreshments and lunch. Meet project leader Ryan Tucker at 8:45 a.m. for sign in at the Merriebrook Lane Bridge in Stamford. Event is rain or shine. Preregistration is appreciated by emailing MianusTM@gmail.com.

Also at Mianus River Park, there will be a hike from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday, June 2, starting from the Merriebrook Lane parking lot in Stamford. The hike will pass through rock outcroppings, wooded ledges and small knolls and is categorized as easy to moderate level hiking. Pre-teen and teens are especially welcome with their parents. Water and hiking shoes/boots are recommended. Event, which is sponsored by Eastern Mountain Sports Stamford, will be held rain or shine. Preregistration is not required. For questions, contact leader Tom Tuohy at 203-461-9865 or  e0114mg@ems.com.

For those looking for more of a challenge, another hike will take place out of the Mianus River Park on Sunday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The hike will traverse through some lesser-known trails and cover a total distance of 6 miles. Dogs are welcome but must stay on their leashes and be well behaved. Meet leaders David Roberts and Pete Sofman in the parking lot by the Red Barn on Merriebrook Lane in Stamford. Rain will cancel event, which is sponsored by Friends of Mianus River Park. Preregistration is not necessary. For questions, contact David Roberts at drossr@aol.com.
