STAMFORD, Conn. -- Happy Birthday To Stamford’s Christen Guilford "Chris" Dudley!

Dudley, who has lived in Stamford, turns 49 on Saturday. The basketball player and politician was born Feb. 22, 1965, in Stamford.

Dudley began playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 1987–88 NBA season. During his rookie season, he played in 55 of 82 games.

During the 1989-90 season, he was traded to the New Jersey Nets and played there for three years. In the 1990–91 season, he enjoyed his best scoring average: 7.1 points per game in 61 contests.

In 1999, he reached the NBA Finals and later grabbed his 5,000th NBA rebound during a game between the Knicks and the Detroit Pistons.

In a career total of 886 NBA games, he scored 3,473 points, had 375 assists, blocked 1,027 shots and had 5,457 rebounds.

He was the recipient of the NBA's J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 1996 and USA Today's Most Caring Athlete Award in 1997.

In 1998, he opened the Chris Dudley Foundation, an Oregon-based group that works to improve the lives of diabetic children.

From 2005 to 2007, he was a volunteer assistant coach for the Lake Oswego High School boys' basketball team, where he mentored UCLA-bound star Kevin Love.

In early 2006, he became vice president of M Financial Wealth Management and since October 2008, he has been a wealth management partner with Filigree Advisors.

In 2010, he was the Republican nominee for governor of Oregon.
