FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A seven-week, coast-to-coast cycling event to raise critical cancer research funds will have its grand finale at Jennings Beach on Saturday.

Hundreds of cyclists and supports are expected to cheer on the last-leg riders of the Norwalk-based Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation’s “Road to Victories” event.

The team, made up of patients, loved ones and supporters, is expected at the beach around 1:30 p.m.

Sponsored by Janssen Oncology, the 3,400-mile ride began on Sept. 3 in Manhattan Beach, Calif. and is on track to raise about $400,000 for research into multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer.

“These riders give hope to all touched by multiple myeloma that patients can lead active lives and achieve victories over cancer,” said MMRF President & CEO Paul Giusti of New Canaan. “Funds raised at events like this fuel the MMRF’s precision medicine research model, helping us develop breakthrough treatments with ever increasing momentum toward a cure.”

Of the 18 cyclists, five are patients and seven planned to ride the entire route. Another group of 11 including four patients rode the first eight days, 546 miles through the Mojave Desert and up mountain passes to Flagstaff, Arizona.
