Community Rallies To Help Norwalk Dad As He Fights Stage 4 Cancer

NORWALK, Conn. — It's been just over a week since Norwalk's Chris Morin got a devastating diagnosis: He has Stage 4 colorectal cancer that has spread to his liver. But in that short period of time, he has already received a huge outpouring of support.

In a GoFundMe campaign launched on May 30, over 200 people have donated nearly $28,000 (of a $35,000 goal) to help ease the family's financial burdens as he begins chemotherapy on Friday.

"On May 25th, 2017, our good friends the Morin family received the worst news any family wants to hear — that a family member has been diagnosed with cancer," says the GoFundMe page.

"For too many families in America, the costs of securing the best cancer treatment are suffocating, and we are asking for all the kindness you can muster to help Chris battle this horrific disease, and defeat it."

The campaign, started by Dean Stiles, calls for support for the Morin family, who need "to concentrate on recovery, not financial stress. ... Please donate as generously as you can during what will be a long, arduous treatment plan in the weeks and months ahead."

The campaign thanked the people who have helped, including the many anonymous donors, for their generosity.

"After two days of fundraising, the response has been truly overwhelming! The speed of the donations has been essential, as it needs to match the speed of treatment," the website says.
