Circus Delights Stamford Crowd

Rob Torres may describe his role with the Big Apple Circus as that of clown, but thief would also work. He certainly seized the applause of the audience as the circus opened in Stamford’s Mill River Park over the weekend.

Torres involved circus goers in his antics by having a woman kiss his finger and nose after he hurt them and by giving a bald man his toupee. But his was just one of many enjoyable acts. The high-flying Kenyan Boys and the Wuqiao Acrobatic Troupe drew plenty of oohs and aahs, and Jenny Vidbel’s animal act was a fan favorite, especially when one of the dogs rode on the back of a pony.

For those who missed the opening weekend, performances under the big top will continue until July 4 as the circus completes its 33rd season. There will also be a Stamford Community Day Performance on Tuesday at 7 p.m. , with free tickets for children and their families compliments of the Mayor’s Youth Service BureauDomusYerwood CenterBoys and Girls Club of Stamford, Glenbrook Community Center and the Chester Addison Community Center. Mayor Michael Pavia will be guest ringmaster for Tuesday’s performance.

For tickets call (888) 541-3750, go to the circus’ website or visit the box office in front of the tent. Prices begin at $15.
