Among those in attendance were Josh Hurd and his son, Kyle, 8, who traveled from Cumberland, R.I., for the day.

"I wanted to see Gaslight Anthem and also to give him his first experience of a summer festival," Josh said as Kyle was busy working on a project in the Kids Corner at the Vibes.

Hurd said he had enjoyed seeing Gaslight Anthem at the Newport Folk Festival and saw that they were playing again at the Vibes. He decided to take his son along to give him the experience plus to have some company at the concert.

Many of the craft items at the Kids Corner were donated by Christopher and Audrey Hebert of Glocester, R.I. It was their second time at the Vibes but the first they were volunteering.

"We were hear last year and walked by the kids tent and saw all the fun they were having and said, 'Hey we could help out with that,' " Christopher Hebert said.

Veteran festival-goers Michael Fedorak and his wife, Kristen DeMarco, brought along their soon-to-be 4-year-old daughter Amelia and their 6-month-old daughter Annabelle.

"It's just a fun place to bring the kids," he said. "We enjoy the atmosphere here. It's kid-friendly, and at the same time there is stuff for mom and dad to do."

The family arrived Thursday with their tent to camp overnight and were staying through the weekend. The couple from Berkley Heights, N.J., have been attending the Vibes for many years.

"It's very relaxed, and everybody is really kind to each other and helpful to each other. And the music is great," DeMarco said.

Shyra Miller, 18, of Bridgeport, was sporting golden braids wrapped around her head as she walked on University Avenue. She was at the Vibes on Friday and said it lived up to its reputation.

"It was cool, it was fun," said the soon-to-be first-year pre-med student at the University of Hartford.
