More than 350 guests attended the event, including Stamford Mayor David Martin, State Sen. Toni Boucher, club board members and staff, business and individual supporters and young club members.
“This year’s City Chic was a huge success, thanks to the generosity of our event’s sponsors and attendees,” said Michael Cotela, the club's executive director. “In a single evening, our organization netted over $300,000 to fund the wide range of BGCS programs that help boys and girls in the Stamford area.”
The focal point of the evening was the presentation of special awards to three dedicated club supporters:
- Corporate Partnership Award to the Law Firm of Shipman & Goodwin LLP of Stamford, Greenwich, Hartford, New Haven, Lakeville, New York City and Washington, D.C.
- Guardian of the Community Award to Dominic Franchella, owner of Stamford Ford Lincoln.
- Lifetime Achievement Award to John Griswold of Stamford.
“These 2016 honorees have enabled the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford to expand and strengthen our programs and community outreach, and we greatly appreciate their tremendous support, “ said Scott Centrella, club board president.
Shipman & Goodwin LLP is the lead sponsor of the club's ”Diplomas2Degrees” program that shows young members how to set goals throughout the school year, in order to reach their ultimate goal of graduating on time.
Franchella and his staff have helped the club in many ways the past seven years, giving more than $75,000 through charitable gifts.
Griswold is a past chair of the Board of the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford and currently is a member of the National Board of Trustees of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. He was awarded a special proclamation at the event by Boucher for his lifetime of service to the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford.
