Aquarion Begins Water Main Replacement In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Aquarion Water Co. has begun a two-phase water main replacement project on Spruce and Wright streets.

The first phase began this week and will see the replacement of 450 feet of 6-inch cast iron water main with 12-inch ductile iron main on Spruce Street, from Stillwater Avenue to Hillhurst Street, and another estimated 450 feet of water main on Wright Street, from West Broad Street moving south to the beginning of the ongoing roadway realignment, part of Stamford Hospital's building project.

Plans are for the work to be finished by mid-March and for the second phase to start on April 8.

The second phase of work involves working in tandem with the roadway realignment and is projected to be finished by early May. Plans are for roughly 450 feet of water main to be replaced.

The aim for the project is to improve overall water infrastructure in the area.

“This is a joint effort with Aquarion, Stamford Hospital and the city of Stamford to increase water reliability and fire flows in the area,” said Alan Huth, Aquarion’s manager of utility programs. “We will be replacing the current aging water mains with larger, more durable mains and adding a second source of water to the new hospital facility.”

“The water main replacement project is a much-needed infrastructure improvement, which meshes nicely with important upgrades to Wright Street, and we look forward to continuing to work with Aquarion as we approach the completion of our new hospital facility,” said Michael Smeriglio, executive director, facilities management, Stamford Hospital.
