BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Imagine seeing some of the world's finest independent, foreign and documentary films without ever having to get on a train. That dream is becoming a reality, thanks to the staff, community and volunteers at Bedford Playhouse.

At its opening in 1947, Bedford Playhouse featured state-of-the art conveniences such as air conditioning and cutting edge audio and video equipment. Located in downtown Bedford, the theater was designed by Pound Ridge resident Joseph Stearns and styled to match the town's colonial character. However, the theater was restructured in the 1980's and began to suffer shortly thereafter.

Today, the community, Board of Directors, staff and volunteers from Westchester and Connecticut are working to bring a new era to the Bedford Playhouse, while celebrating its existing charm and character.

Watch the video above to see Playhouse President John Farr discuss the exciting plans to transform one of Northern Westchester's oldest community institutions into a not-for-profit arts house cinema, cultural center and community hub.
