"People just wouldn't come here because the bathrooms were atrocious," Ursone said with a laugh about the previous two tiny bathrooms — one male, one female. Each could accommodate only one person — barely Ursone said — at a time.
However, that has all been changed. The theater unveiled a new $800,000, 2,500-square-foot two-story addition to the theater. It includes two large bathrooms that can easily accommodate patrons who come for the shows at the 100-seat theater. And they are now handicapped accessible, he said
On Friday afternoon, it was officially opened with a ribbon cutting by Mayor David Martin.
The addition also allows the theater to have a proper box office, an expanded lobby and enlarged dressing rooms, Ursone said.
The theater's 100-seat capacity remains unchanged, but it added a rehearsal studio and classroom space on the second floor. A wardrobe workshop was also built, which allows the costumers more room to work, Ursone said.
Previously, they had to seek out an open space to work, he said.
The city of Stamford paid for the expansion as part of its capital campaign on the city-owned property. The new floor, interior painting and lighting was paid for by Curtain Call, Ursone said
Curtain Call, a nonprofit producing theater company, operates the Kweskin Theatre and the seat Dressing Room Theatre, located at the Sterling Farms Complex at 1349 Newfield Ave.
Martin called Curtain Call an asset to the city and to its residents.
"Lou, you and everybody who is involved did a fantastic job and the city is proud to have you as a partner," he said.
