Stamford's Cyndi Lauper Nominated For A Tony Award

STAMFORD, Conn. - The new Broadway show "Kinky Boots" made a strong showing as Tony Award nominations were announced Tuesday morning, including one for Stamford resident and Grammy winner Cyndi Lauper.

Stamford resident, Cyndi Lauper is nominated for "Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theater", for her work on the new hit Broadway show "Kinky Boots".

Lauper is nominated for Best Original Score (music and/or lyrics) Written for the Theater. She worked to create the musical with four-time Tony winner and Ridgefield resident Harvey Fierstein.

Fierstein is in the running for the award for Best Book of a Musical for the show.

The Broadway show "Kinky Boots" came out of its first season with 13 nominations, including Best Musical. According to the show's website, the show is about a young man who has inherited his fathers failing shoe factory. To help find a new direction for the factory, he finds inspiration in performer Lola, who needs sturdy shoes for her performances. Together they find a way to help each other.
