STAMFORD, Conn. -- "The City that Works!" also is the "City in Which to Eat," according to Livability.com's list of "10 Best Foodie Cities."

The El Charrito taco truck was one of the reasons Stamford made the Top 10 'Foodie' Cities In America list.

The El Charrito taco truck was one of the reasons Stamford made the Top 10 'Foodie' Cities In America list.

Stamford placed sixth on the list, but was the top-ranked city in the Northeast.

One of the most beloved places to eat in the city is the El Charrito taco truck, according to the website, which added how this was indicative of how the city’s residents prefer food quality over atmosphere and ambiance.

"Stamford residents, including a large college population, largely choose independent restaurants over fast food or chains when it comes to dining out, which helped it land on our list of Top 10 Best Foodie Cities," according to the website.

The website pointed out that numerous farmers' markets in Stamford and surrounding Fairfield County provide home chefs many nutritious ingredients with which to experiment.

Downtown Stamford features more than 90 restaurants, cafes and food stands, according to the website.

"Main Street, in particular, is loaded with fine choices from Brasitas, which serves elegant Latin dishes, to Stamford Restaurant & Pizzeria, which features a full Italian menu," the website said. "Hope Street is another sure bet on finding great restaurants in Stamford and home to Olio, which Connecticut Magazine named one of the best restaurants in the state. Just down the road is Hope Pizza Restaurant, which has been a fixture in Fairfield County since 1979."

Livability.com analyzed Census Bureau and Esri Demographics data to determine cities with concentrations of independent restaurants frequented by residents, as well as award-winning restaurants, prevalence of farmers' markets and local obesity rates.

Based on those criteria, Coral Gables, Fla. was the top-ranked city nationally, followed by Omaha, Neb., Pittsburgh, Rockville, Md. and Duluth, Minn. all beating out Stamford.
