Stamford was ranked 44th overall nationally, and was the only city in Fairfield County with a population over 100,000 to make the list.
Niche compiled data in several key categories to determine its rankings:
- school ratings
- crime rates
- housing
- employment
- community
- things to do
Stamford exceeded the national average in many categories, including median household income, median individual income and poverty rate, and fell well below the national average in property and violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city of approximately 123,995 struggled mostly in cost-of-living categories. Homes are older than the national average and they cost more to rent or buy than most places in the U.S.
