STAMFORD, Conn. — Local community heroes will be hailed among the giant balloons and entertainment at Sunday's UBS Parade Spectacular.
One of the eight floats featured will be the Stamford Teacher of the Year Float: AITE Preparing Students for the Future. The float will be decorated with college pennants of former students. Students will be costumed to portray future career choices, like architects, builders, construction managers, doctors, nurses and more.
AITE is Stamford’s inter-district magnet high school, providing students with a multitude of technology – rich learning experiences necessary to prepare them for high-tech careers. Teacher of Year finalists Samah Chadli, Nicholas DeAntonis and Sean Peterson are part of AITE team.
Planned highlights of the parade include two new balloons, Daniel Tiger and Kung Fu Panda. Returning favorites include The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Big Bird, Elmo, Mr. Potato Head, Paddington Bear, Scooby-Doo, Shrek and Super Grover.
The event begins at noon at the intersection of Summer and Hoyt streets. It concludes on Atlantic Street, just a few blocks from the Stamford Metro-North station.
On the eve of the parade, Point72 Asset Management will host a balloon inflation party from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Hoyt and Summer streets. The pre-parade event will allow spectators a behind-the-scenes look at the balloons as they come to life.
There also will be a special preview performance from Flippenout, as well as entertainment by the Locust Performing Arts Center. A visit from Santa also will be part of the fun.
