Trustees managing Sendak’s legacy have served notice that they are using an option in a 1969 agreement between Sendak and the Rosenbach to reclaim most of Sendak’s collection, according to the report.

The Philadelphia museum is home to about 10,000 Sendak-related items, including original drawings, manuscripts, proofs, and rare editions.

The report also states that according to his will, Sendak – who lived in Ridgefield and died in 2012 – left his collection to his foundation, which plans to create a museum and study center in Ridgefield.
