FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A cantina located in a shopping center in Fairfield has caught the attention of a New York Times food critic.

Sarah Gold on June 13 published a review of Baro New World Cantina. She described Baro in her review as a “festive, buzzy place, where cocktails and wine are the headliners, and the casual, tasty Latin American dishes serve more as accompanying acts.” She gave the restaurant a rating of "good."

Gold’s positively reviewed dishes include the Tuna tiradito, thin slices of sashimi-grade fish with olive oil and diced habaneros; the Ecuadorian-style shrimp ceviche in tomato-based broth and topped with fresh avocado; and skirt steak tacos with tomatillo salsa.

Gold described Baro in her review as a bracket-shaped cantina that opens to a mural depicting a Puerto Rican village and a long ceviche bar with 10 stools overlooking the kitchen.

Baro is open from 11:30 a.m to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 5 to 9 p.m. Sundays. Reservations are recommended on weekends.

The Baro, located on 1229 Post Road, is run by Richard and Juan Reyes. For more information, visit the website or call 203-292-9560.
