The Labyrinth, a new two-level self-contained climbing structure, opened in May at the park. Children ages 5-10 can have the run of the section at the park for two hours of climbing adventure for up to 18 climbers. The party package includes goodie bags for all climbing guests, a t-shirt for the birthday girl or boy, reserved picnic tables, a climbing guide and all equipment and instruction.

“Parents love it because it’s in a contained area of the park,’’ said Karen O’Halloran, Manager of Business Operations for Adventure Park. “The children are not spread out over five acres. It has its own picnic area, so they’re not competing for space with other visitors.”

The Labyrinth is not open to general admission—only by advance reservation. And young climbers are not competing with teenagers when climbing on The Labyrinth. It’s just for the younger set.

“Parents like the fact that they can see their children,’’ O’Halloran said. “They are in there for about 2.5 hours. There’s a lot to do in there to keep them occupied.”

The Labyrinth offers swinging bridges, zip lines and rolling elements similar to those found elsewhere at The Adventure Park, but sized down for the younger climbers, and just like elsewhere at The Park, kids on The Labyrinth all wear safety harnesses and park monitors thoroughly explain safe climbing procedures before children climb.

"They understand what they need to do before they are let loose," said O’Halloran.

The Labyrinth is modeled after a similar successful structure in a related Adventure Park facility in Maryland. Birthday party packages at the Bridgeport location begin at $320 for up to nine climbers. Non-climbing family and friends are admitted free.

The Adventure Park at the Discovery Museum is located on the Fairfield/Bridgeport line at 4450 Park Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut, one mile from Merritt Exit 47. For more information about The Labyrinth and birthday party packages, click here or call (203) 690-1717.
