Even if you’ve already seen it in a “regular” theater, you’re going to want to check it out again on IMAX’s six-story screen.

"Interstellar" tells the story of former NASA pilot, and current farmer Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) who gets tapped to return to space via a wormhole that has opened up near Saturn and search for habitable worlds because Earth is dying. Against the wishes of his young daughter; “Murph” (Mackenzie Foy), Coop boldly goes forth to discover new worlds to repopulate the race.

The film (which is this generation’s 2001) is not only lyrically beautiful (something that is greatly enhanced by viewing in IMAX), and gives new hope to a lost generation (both on film and in real life), but is based on actual science as well. Nolan’s film has been described as continuing the legacy of Kubrick, and we concur. This is most assuredly the sci-fi film you want to see this year.

Apparently the portions of the movie not filmed with IMAX cameras have been digitally remastered so that all of "Interstellar" will be presented in the IMAX format.

Norwalk Maritime Aquarium’s IMAX Theater is located at 10 N. Water St., Norwalk. The film is rated PG-13 and runs 2 hours, 49 minutes. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, and John Lithgow, and is directed by Christopher Nolan. The film airs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Jan. 8 to 31 at 7:30 p.m.

Norwalk resident Robert J. Sodaro has been reviewing films for some 30 years. During that time, his movie reviews and articles have appeared in numerous print publications, as well as on the web at Examiner.com.
