STAMFORD, Conn. — The following is a list of events going on in Stamford this week, including government meetings and other happenings. Visit our Events Section to see what else is going on in the area.

Monday, Aug. 6

Board of Representatives: 8 p.m. The city’s representatives will have their monthly full board meeting to discuss and decide upon various issues facing the city. Legislative Chambers, fourth floor, Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Tuesday, Aug. 7

Spider Snacks: 4 p.m. Have a snack with tarantulas. The event is educational and free to attend with gate admission. Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road.

Board of Education: 7 p.m. The board will have two committee meetings – curriculum and fiscal. The curriculum committee will discuss CMT scores among other items, and the fiscal committee will be looking into the money issues facing the schools. Fifth floor conference room, Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Wednesday, Aug. 8

Veterans Career Fair: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. About 40 companies are looking to hire veterans. BLT Headquarters, 100 Washington Blvd.

Lumina String Quartet: 6:30 p.m. The quartet will be playing the works of Russian Masters Tchaikovsky and Glazunov with 15-year-old American composer, Scott Feiner. Ferguson Library, 1 Library Plaza.

"Kiss Me, Kate:" 7:30 p.m. The newest production opens at Curtain Call’s Kweskin Theater. Tickets are 29 for adults, $22 for senior citizens and $14.50 for students/children. The show will run through Aug. 18. Curtain Call’s Kweskin Theater, 349 Newfield Ave.

Thursday, Aug. 9

Night Time In the Animal Kingdom: 2 p.m. Animal Embassy will bring some of its critters to teach kids about the animals’ night time habits. The program is recommended for children 5 and older. Downtown Ferguson Library, 1 Library Plaza.

Board of Finance: 7 p.m. The board will discuss and decide upon grants and other appropriations facing the city. Fourth floor conference room, Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Friday, Aug. 10

Friday Flicks: 2 p.m. The Ferguson Library will show “The Lorax,” the animated film based off of the Dr. Seuss book. The film is rated PG and runs 87 minutes long. Ferguson Library, 1 Library Plaza.

National S’Mores Day: 4 p.m. Head over to the Stamford Museum & Nature Center and grab marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate and celebrate the “holiday.” The event is free to attend with gate admission. The nature center will provide the food. Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road.
