"Chinatown" is a neo-noir mystery directed by Roman Polanski and starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. The film's plot is inspired by the California Water Wars of the early 20th century. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, winning Best Original Screenplay, and in 1991 was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for films that are culturally significant.
