Eckart Preu will lead the Stamford Symphony in a program with Max Bruch, Felix Mendelssohn and P.M. Davies.

The concert will feature soloist Caroline Goulding and bagpiper, Peter Walker.

The Scotch Malt Whiskey Society Scotch Tasting is offered Saturday before the concert in the theater's upper lobby.

Mendelssohn was not a Scot but was influenced by the landscapes of Scotland and Scottish folk music, best represented in his piece, "Scottish Fantasy."

Violinist Caroline Goulding will be performing this work with the orchestra. Since her debut she has gone on to perform with the Symphony Orchestras of Toronto, Detroit, Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Milwaukee, Pasadena, Alabama, the National Symphony, Florida Orchestra and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

In continuation with the theme on Scotland, Stamford Symphony will present Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Scottish, filled with Scottish-style melodies and and P.M. Davies’ "Orkney Wedding with Sunrise."

Davies, a composer and conductor featured quintessential sounds of Scotland with Peter Walker on bagpipe.

Walker enjoys a varied and exciting career as a singer of folk, early, and classical music, and as a piper in music ranging from the Middle Ages to the present. He has appeared as a bagpipe soloist with baroque and modern orchestras including the Little Orchestra Society, and was the 2016 winner of the Overseas Class in the Lowland and Border Pipers’ Society competition.

Of all the three composers in the weekend’s program, Davies was the only one who actually lived in Scotland.

The Scotch tasting event, sponsored by Accenture, is Saturday at 6:45 p.m. Scotches will be paired with light hors d'oeuvres. The concerts are Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
