Stamford Mayor David Martin will join with local startup leaders, including venture capitalists and startup CEOs, to select the winners after the top teams present their ideas.

"The Stamford Innovation Center is an important part of the business community, bringing entrepreneurs, startups, and companies together to create technologies and companies today that the world will use tomorrow,” said Martin. “I look forward to being a judge at Startup Weekend Stamford and seeing for myself some of the great things taking place there."

The 54-hour intensive weekend will bring startup enthusiasts, developers and designers to come together with marketers, product managers and business advisers to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups. Tickets for “Demo Day are $20, but are in limited supply.

“Startup Weekend Stamford is always exciting, and Demo Day is the culmination of all the inspiration and hard work,” said Barry Schwimmer, founder and managing partner of the Stamford Innovation Center.  “The local startups who call our building home love the inspiring spaces and comfortable working environment here at 175 Atlantic Street.  Startup Weekend gives us a chance to share our facility with the next generation of entrepreneurs and we look forward to hearing the startup ideas they develop.”

The event starts with open mic pitches Friday night, in the SIC auditorium, when attendees have one minute to pitch a startup idea. Teams then form around the top ideas, and work collaboratively on Saturday and Sunday, building a business model, coding, designing, creating a minimal viable product and validating customer needs.

Local business leaders serve as mentors and coaches over the weekend, offering one-on-one advice to each team. The weekend concludes with final presentations Sunday, when each team presents its business to a panel of experts including Venture Capitalists J. Skyler Fernandes, and Mark Wachen, SIC Entrepreneur-in-Residence Janis Collins, Life in Mobile CEO John Lim, and Mayor Martin. The top three teams will receive prizes.

Startup Weekend Stamford kicks off at the Stamford Innovation Center, 175 Atlantic St., on April 11 at 6 p.m. “Demo Day,” with team presentations, judging and awards will be held April 13.
