STAMFORD, Conn. -- Shelter for the Homeless, in celebration of its commitment to sheltering and improving the lives of lower Fairfield's homeless individuals, will hold its 15th annual Rays of Hope Gala on Friday, May 6 at the Italian Center of Stamford.

More than 400 of the area’s residents, business principals and community leaders will attend a memorable evening filled with inspiration and entertainment.

The gala will begin at 6 p.m. and former Major League Baseball player and manager Bobby Valentine will serve as master of ceremonies. Attendees will enjoy mingling, dining, dancing and competing for exciting live and silent auction prizes.

Shelter for the Homeless co-founder, Patricia Phillips, will be honored for her commitment to the shelter for the past 30 years, and high-energy music will be performed by the band ETA.

Reservations begin at $250 per person. Visit www.shelterforhomeless.org to purchase tickets. Advertising and sponsorship opportunities are also available.

“This extraordinary gala provides the community with an entertaining evening that really makes a difference to those that are homeless,” said Rafael Pagan, Jr., Executive Director. “Because the shelter serves the entire lower Fairfield County region, guests will come away feeling inspired, knowing that they’ve helped those who need it most in their own community.”

Event proceeds will directly benefit the Pacific House emergency men's homeless shelter. Located at 597 Pacific St. in Stamford, the shelter operates every day of the year, 24 hours per day, feeding and housing up to 100 or more men per night.

In 2015, the shelter served more than 50,000 meals and provided 25,000 bed-nights. Additionally, the shelter offers case management services, access to healthcare and programs such as Workforce Development, Recovery Program and Job Readiness Training.

Shelter case managers work with each individual that comes to the shelter to help them reach the goal of obtaining housing and becoming more self-sufficient.

Shelter for the Homeless is especially grateful to the gala corporate sponsors. They include: First County Bank; First Niagara Foundation; GE Asset Management; Greenwich Hospital; Olympus Partners; Purdue Pharma, L.P.; Pitney Bowes; Thompson Reuters; US Trust and media partner Moffly Media.

The Italian Center of Stamford is at 1620 Newfield Ave., Stamford.
