The performance is titled "Only the Lonely" and will feature Slauson singing the titular Roy Orbison song as Neil Young. "Only the Lonely" is part of the programming for Franklin Street Work's "It's Gonna Take A Lotta Love" exhibition.
"The piece engages with the effects of repetition and its transformative power over objects and experiences, as well as performed identities, attempts at perfection, and appropriations of collective culture," Franklin Street Works said in a statement. "Each iteration of the karaoke performance will be recorded through the use of a VCR, lending an archaic and fuzzy aesthetic to the byproducts of the performance."
Slauson received her bachelor's of fine art degree in sculpture and extended media from the University of South Florida in 2010, and is currently completing her master's of fine art degree in studio art and master's degree in modern and contemporary art, theory, and criticism at Purchase College.
The artists in “It’s Gonna Take A Lotta Love” pursue modes of art-making that focus on the aesthetic and conceptual potential of society’s offcuts. They are: Jon Campbell of Australia; Andy Coolquitt of Austin and New York City; Jeremy Deller of London; Jessica Mein of New York City; A.L. Steiner + Robbinschilds of New York City; Whiting Tennis of Seattle; Stephen Vitiello of Richmond, Va.; and Wayne White of Los Angeles.
After the performance, a casual gathering will take place in the café from 3 to 4 p.m. Franklin Street Works is located at 41 Franklin St. in downtown Stamford.
