STAMFORD, CONN. -- Llamas, goats, sheep, chickens and, yes, even pigeons, will help bring the Christmas story to life at Stamford’s First United Methodist Church this Sunday, Dec. 20.

The live Nativity scene, depicting Christ’s birth, has been a tradition at the church for more than a decade.

The event starts at 2 p.m. at the church, located at 42 Cross Road.

The children of the church’s Methodist Youth Fellowship will play the roles of Mary, Joseph, the Three Wise Men, and the shepherds.

Eden Farms, a local garden nursery, and several local families have donated the use of their animals for the service.

Members of the church will read verses from the Gospel of Luke describing the plight of the Holy Family in their search for a place for Mary to give birth.

The First United Methodist Handbell Choir will perform lead participants in the singing of Christmas carols.

Refreshments will be served in the church lounge following the service.
