STAMFORD, Conn. -- Westy Self Storage in Stamford will reprise its winter coat and toy drive this holiday season.
Operation Santa Donation Drive is an annual collection and distribution of "wish list" items to kids with less privileges at Benjamin Franklin School, P.S. 55 in Bronx, N.Y.
The drive was founded by Kaisa Newhams. It started with one kindergarten class of 25 students and now reaches 400 in grades Pre-K to second at the Bronx public school.
Contributors may select a child’s wish list during a reception on Monday, Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the facility, 80 Brownhouse Road, Stamford.
Also, Westy will also provide storage for the donations and make the delivery. The drive runs to Dec. 15.
“By answering the ‘Dear Santa’ letters, our group effort provides the only Christmas these children will have,” said Newhams. “We are so fortunate to again have Westy as a partner. Without their continued support, we would not be able to expand our effort to include more and more children each year. Westy’s assistance in hosting the kickoff reception, providing a drop off location, as well as secure storage and delivery of the donations, greatly reduces the logistical challenges of the program, thereby allowing us to focus more attention on the children and their needs.”
Monday's "wish list" reception will showcase "Dear Santa" letters by kids, which guests may take to fulfill a child's holiday dreams and provide a warm coat, shoes, mittens and a hat.
All are encouraged to attend the reception and participate in the program.
Westy is open for donation drop off 7 days a week. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Call 203-961-8000 or visit www.westy.com for directions.
“It is immensely rewarding to be part of a program that continues to bring a joyful Christmas to so many children, year after year,” said Joe Schweyer, District Director of Westy Self Storage, Stamford location.
