GREENWICH, Conn. -- The American Cancer Society is proud to announce Steve Folb, of Fairfield, and FJ Mercede, of Stamford, as co-chairs for the American Cancer Society’s annual “Local Philanthropist Roast” on Thursday, Oct.13 at The Hyatt Regency of Greenwich, 1800 E Putnam Ave.

This year’s honoree is Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei. Longtime volunteers of the society, Folb and Mercede have collaborated together on a capital campaign that led to the construction of the American Cancer Society’s Regional Center at 38 Richards Ave., Norwalk. They also have been instrumental in establishing and building the annual roast, raising more than $1.5 million to support cancer programs and research. Other members of the committee include Megan Couch of Weston, Greg Durkin of Stamford, and Barbara Heim of Greenwich.

Proceeds from the event and its live auction, Hand Up For Hope will benefit the American Cancer Society and its research program.

Tickets, program book advertising and sponsorship opportunities are now available by calling 203-563-1512 or via e-mail at aubrey.keely@cancer.org . Please visit us at www.fairfieldcountyroast.org (available June 1).

Tesei was elected first selectman of the Town of Greenwich in November 2007. Prior to serving as first selectman, he worked in the financial services sector for close to 20 years, serving as a vice president of the wealth management group of BNY/Mellon.

As a volunteer, Tesei served the Town of Greenwich on the Board of Estimate and Taxation for 10 years. He also served as a board member of the United Way of Greenwich, American Red Cross Greenwich Chapter and is currently a member of the Board of the Greenwich Council of Boy Scout’s America, Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, American Red Cross Metro CT/NY and serves on the advisory boards of The Breast Cancer Alliance and Community Centers Inc.

He is a fifth generation Greenwich resident. He and his wife, Jill are the parents of a daughter, Caroline, and a son, James, both who attend Greenwich Public Schools.
