Stamford Hospital Schedules March GI Lecture Series

STAMFORD, Conn. – In recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, physicians and staff affiliated with Stamford Hospital and the Bennett Cancer Center will present “Digestive Health: Getting on the Right Track,” a lecture series in March.

The five-week lecture series on everything you should know about your gastrointestinal (GI) tract but were afraid to ask, will be held on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. from March 2 to March 30 at at the Tully Health Center Brace Auditorium.

This educational series is free and open to the public. Each session will feature a different physician and staff presenting information focused on a particular GI-related topic each week.

Schedule:

  • March 2: GI Overview and colorectal screenings with gastroenterologists Darlene Negbenebor, M.D., and Stuart Waldstreicher, M.D. The event will also feature a large, inflatable “Strollin’ Colon” as a visual tool to help educate about physiology and disease states.
  • March 9: GI Tract Conditions. Conditions such as reflux, Barrett’s esophagus, etc. will be discussed with gastroenterologist Robert M. Dettmer, M.D.
  • March 16: Diverticular disease, hemorrhoids and colon resections with colorectal curgeon Shahzad Zafar, M.D.
  • March 23: Genetics and preventive measures for colorectal cancer and the role of the oncology nurse navigator with medical oncologist Paul L. Weinstein, M.D.; cancer genetic counselor Erin Ash, MS, CGC; and oncology nurse navigator Katharine Radziewicz
  • March 30: Keeping the colon healthy with “50 Shades of Green” with nutritionist Lisa Shepard, RD, CSO.
