For her unyielding dedication to improving the lives of Stamford’s children and families, Lapine will be awarded the first Christel Truglia Humanitarian Award.
Lapine has played a key role in helping the city of Stamford grow and enhance the education services offered to its children for more than 40 years. After spending time as a teacher at Roxbury Elementary School, Lapine founded Quality Education for Stamford – a grassroots advocacy group of parents and community members that lobbied for changes to improve classroom performance. She also founded the city’s School Readiness Council and served as its chairman for several years.
Lapine’s success as an education and community advocate soon caught the attention of then-Mayor Dannel Malloy, who appointed her the city’s official education liaison. In addition to advising Malloy on key education issues, Jennifer also served on the Mayor’s Youth Council.
Tickets start at $150 and all proceeds will benefit the Truglia Thumbelina Fund. A number of exciting sponsorship opportunities are also available. For more information, visit www.tinyurl.com/thumbelinafund or www.familycenters.org.
Founded by former Connecticut State Representative Christel Truglia in 1996, the Thumbelina Fund is a donor-advised fund of the Fairfield County's Community Foundation that aims to meet the special needs of Stamford’s children.
Whether it helped to purchase a prom dress for an underprivileged girl, build a playground at a local public housing complex or send promising students to a leadership conference, the Truglia Thumbelina Fund has added much-needed wonder, adventure, and joy to countless childhoods throughout Stamford.
