Westchester Residents Gather For National Conference On Race

IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Westchester residents will gather for a national conference on race Thursday, Jan. 21 to Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Church of St. Barnabas in Irvington.

The Church of St. Barnabas in coordination with Rivertowns Episcopal Parishes Action on Inclusion and Race (REPAIR) welcomes Westchester attendees for Trinity Institute’s 45th National Theological Conference, “Listen for a Change: Sacred Conversations for Racial Justice.” 

Activists, scholars, authors, artists, clergy, and others will come together to hold life-giving conversations on the racial issues of our time.

These important issues include structural racism, mass incarceration, and policy change. 

The live conference, TI2016, held in New York City, will be webcast in real time and delayed video at the St. Barnabas parish hall. 

Participants will be able to participate in Q&A sessions and breakout discussion groups at this official Partner Site. 

The event is open to anyone interested in a practical, theological perspective on racial equality and is ideal for students, seminarians, church, and community leaders looking for thought- leadership from experts and activists. 

Among others, speakers will include:

  • Nicholas Kristof, author and Pulitzer prize-winning columnist at The New York Times
  • Anna Deavere Smith, actress and founding director of the Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue 
  • Michele Norris, former host of NPR Radio’s “All Things Considered,” and author of "The Grace of Silence" (2010)
