Stratford Health Department officials said that despite the good news, they would like to stress this should provide residents with a false sense of security, as community transmission of COVID-19 is still occurring and increasing.

“Community transmission of COVID-19 is a reality for us here in Stratford. We are urging residents to continue to do their part to protect themselves, their family, and community from getting and spreading the illness,” says Andrea Boissevain, director of Health for the Town of Stratford.

Stratford currently has two active cases of COVID-19 and one case in which the person, a child, has recovered, Boissevain said.

The patients, a man in his mid-40s and a female over 80 have both tested positive for the coronavirus, she said.

The patient who recovered is a student at Wilcoxson Elementary School.

“Both of these new patients are under medical care and will be self-quarantining," Boissevain said. "We are unable to provide any further details specific to these two patients at this time.”

Stratford Mayor Laura R. Hoydick said the two cases highlight the need to follow local, state and federal guidelines.

“These two new cases are unfortunate, but entirely anticipated,” said Hoydick. “This highlights the continued need for residents to practice social distancing, stay home and away from the public as much as is possible and practical, and to frequently wash and sanitize hands and surfaces.
