The fundraising event allows nearly 500 Stamford elementary schoolers from low-income households to attend summer camps at no cost to their families.

“The elementary school children have an opportunity to go to camp for free, while their parents gain peace of mind that their children are cared for and safe while they are at work,” Opus for Person-to-Person members said in a press release.

Houlihan Lawrence, formerly Kelly Associates, is hosting the event for the fifth consecutive year.

“It’s important to carry on our long tradition of sponsoring Opus’ Balloons for Campers Day,” Jeff Kelly, managing broker of Houlihan Lawrence, said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to help children have a fulfilling and memorable summer camp experience, while their parents are able to remain working.”

Area residents were mailed fliers earlier this month asking for their contributions. Every dollar goes directly toward sending a child to summer camp.

It costs about $600 per child, or $100 per week, to send one of the sponsored children to summer camp.

All donors will have red balloons tied to their mailboxes on the annual Balloons for Campers Day.

Anyone interested in delivering balloons, distributing fliers, or otherwise contributing to the effort is asked to email Natasha Blair or visit the Opus for Person-to-Person website.
