The lectures will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room of the library.
As the general population becomes more proactive about health and wellness, a mini-education in the realm of medicine and health is a valuable asset.
The New Canaan Chamber of Commerce and New Canaan Library are sponsoring Stamford Hospital’s highly informative Med Ed lecture series. The library will host a series of lectures by top physicians from Stamford Hospital.
Program Director and general internist Dr. Deena Ebright invites the public to attend this five-week series of free lectures that mimics the structure of the medical school experience in a language that everyone can understand.
Each night, one of five dynamic lectures will focus on one topic and cover the anatomy, function, common disease states and available treatments in the world of medicine and health. All physician instructors are board-certified in their area of specialty and leaders in their fields at Stamford Hospital.
The schedule for the series is as follows:
- Sept. 23: Dr. Joshua Herbert, “Anatomy: The Human Body and How It Works.” Herbert will explain the major systems of the human body and how they collectively work together to maintain function. This introductory session will be our foundation to understanding the human body. It will serve as the groundwork for future Med Ed sessions;
- Sept. 30: Dr. Michael Parry, “Infectious Diseases-2014 and Beyond;”
- Oct. 7: Dr. Katherine Sandhu, “Female Pelvic Health: A Discussion about Female Pelvic Anatomy, Common Pelvic Floor Disorders and Treatment Options;”
- Oct. 14: Dr. Jacquelyn Brewer, “Diseases Involving the Ears, Nose and Throat;” and
- Oct. 21: Dr. William Hines, “Kidneys: How They Function and How They Do Not”.
The series provides a unique learning opportunity whether someone comes to one lecture or all five. Time will be allowed for a question-and-answer session following each lecture.
Audience members may opt to attend all lectures or just a select few. Those who attend will receive a certificate of completion for each of the Med Ed lecture series. The series is free, and open to the public.
