Fatal Crash: Teen Falls Asleep Driving In Hudson Valley, Hits Car Head-On, Police Say

A 54-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash after the other driver allegedly fell asleep and crossed into his lane of travel.

The incident took place in Dutchess County in LaGrange around 3:40 p.m., Friday, Sept. 15 on Route 55.

An investigation determined a 17-year-old driving a 2015 Honda CRV eastbound fell asleep and entered the westbound lane striking a 2021 Kia Sorrento driven by Suffolk County resident Gabriel T. Bovenzi,of Shirely, a hamlet of Brookhaven on Long Island, said Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police.

Bovenzi was transported by the LaGrange Fire Department to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police did not divulge if the 17-year-old was injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
