In Charles County, more than four dozen firefighters responded to a barn on Leonardtown Road in Bryantown shortly after 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, when a neighbor reported a barn that was on fire.
Units arrived on the scene to find an approximately 400-by-200-foot horse stable with fire throughout, according to the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department.
"A defensive fire attack was utilized until a ladder pipe operation could be established," they noted. "Two ladder trucks were utilized to extinguish the fire, as well as 11 tankers to keep a continuous supply of water going."

It took a total of 50 firefighters approximately 60 minutes to get the fire under control, officials said, though it caused an estimated $250,000 worth of damage to the structure, which was destroyed.
Fire crews remained at the scene for hours on Saturday to extinguish any hot spots and clean up the area.
Officials said that it is unclear where the fire began, or what caused it. At the time first responders arrived at the barn, it was vacant, they noted.
