Police received a report about a robbery in Sullivan County on Old Liberty Road in Monticello at about 2:40 a.m. on Friday, July 15, according to New York State Police.
The victim told troopers he heard a knock at his door, and when he opened the door he saw a woman who asked him for help, police said.
A man who was carrying a machete and a pocket knife then pushed his way into the home, and he and the woman robbed the man of $110 cash, his cell phone, and the keys to his 2008 Ford F-150, authorities said.
Before leaving the home, the man struck the victim in the arm with the machete, and both suspects left the scene in the victim's pickup truck, police reported.
Monticello Police told troopers that there were two people who matched the description of the suspects, identified as 44-year-old James Smith and 41-year-old Stacey Wilson, both of Monticello, according to the report.
Police said troopers interviewed Smith and Wilson and found that they were in possession of the stolen keys.
Authorities located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Government Center on Sturgis Road in Monticello, police reported.
State Police said Smith and Wilson were charged with:
- First-degree burglary
- First-degree robbery
- Third-degree grand larceny
Smith was also charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, authorities said.
They are set to appear in court on Monday, July 25, police reported.
