The incident took place around 2 p.m., Monday, July 4 in Levittown.
Melinda Medina, age 47, of Levittown, was arrested after police pulled over her 20-year-old son for having an expired tag and inspection sticker, said the Nassau County Police.
During the stop, Median arrived on the scene and became aggressive toward the officers, police said.
Medina then used the crutch she was walking with to strike an officer and spit at the police, officers said.
She was taken into custody and transported to Nassau University Medical Center for evaluation.
While in police custody at the hospital, Medina also punched an officer in the face and caused damage to his body camera. Officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest, as the defendant was violent and combative, police said.
Her son was issued tickets and released from the scene.
Medina was arrested and charged with:
- Three counts of assault
- Criminal possession of a weapon
- Criminal mischief
- Obstructing governmental administration
- Three counts of harassment
She will be arraigned on Tuesday, July 5, in Hempstead.
