A team effort was required when two horses got out and had to be corralled back to their home using rice cakes as an incentive as New York State Police troopers blocked traffic on the parkway on Wednesday, Feb. 2, authorities announced.
The curious horses reportedly received a police escort back to their home at the Thomas School of Horsemanship in Melville after attempting their great escape.
Coffee and Barrington, the two horses, were spooked on Wednesday, Feb. 2 when a tree toppled and broke a fence in the corner of the field they were in, clearing the way for them to trek through the woods to the Northern State Parkway, prompting the police rescue, which was aided by some Good Samaritans passing through the area.
Ultimately, the horses were tracked down near exit 39 (Bethpage State Park/West Hills), and they were escorted back home safely.
“The Northern State Parkway is not a racetrack! These two didn’t get the memo,” New York State Police posted on Twitter.
“It took a team to get two horses home after they escaped their stable and ended up on the Parkway. A driver lured them with rice cakes, we blocked traffic and the owners were able to walk them home.”
