Seferian has worked with special needs students throughout his nearly 30-year tenure with Norwalk Public Schools. Along with administrators and colleagues, he led a groundbreaking initiative at Roton Middle School, which implemented co-teaching strategies for high needs students in general education classrooms rather than self-contained settings.

Seferian was part of a team nominated by the Roton School Governance Council for Norwalk’s annual Excellence in Education Award, which kicked off this past year. The group was responsible for the implementation of the new middle school redesign plan for sixth grade at Roton. Seferian worked with team members to launch ENCORE, programming at the middle school level that provides enrichment, exploration and application of the core curriculum for students.

Prior to joining Norwalk Public Schools, Seferian held special education positions with Cooperative Education Service (CES) in Trumbull, and in the Stamford and Fairfield school districts.

Seferian earned a doctorate in Education in Child and Youth Studies from Nova Southeastern University in 2000. He holds a Sixth-Year Certificate in Advanced Studies Administration and Supervision, a Master of Science in Special Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University. Seferian is certified in Special Education grades K through 12. He is also a Connecticut Provisional Educator, Intermediate Administrator and Supervisor.

Educators selected as part of the annual “Excellence in Education” initiative were invited to submit their name for consideration as Norwalk Teacher of the Year. A committee composed of administrators and community representatives from the Norwalk Education Foundation and Norwalk ACTS selected the Norwalk Teacher of the Year.
