Hold the pickle, hold the customer: BK cashier sniffs out fake twenty

Next time you’re tempted to mock the clerk behind the fast-food counter, consider Nolan O. Cruce, a 19-year-old college student who got nailed trying to pass a phony $20 bill at a Burger King in Park Ridge.

Spotting the fake, the clever cashier called Park Ridge police, who questioned Cruce the night of Dec. 14. They later checked out his story, which Detective James Babcock said was as bogus as his double sawbuck.

Cruce, of Hunting Ridge Court in Montvale, was arrested Monday and charged with the legal equivalent of trying to exchange funny money for goods or services.

And, no, police didn’t itemize his dinner.

If you come across any fake notes bearing likenesses of dead presidents, you can call Park Ridge police at 201-391-5400, ext. 5236, or your local authorities.
