Greenwich Hospital Hosts Support Groups For Weight-Loss, Cancer, Grief

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Greenwich Hospital offers support groups to help the members of the community.

A schedule of events is below.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly): Meets Mondays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at 900 King Street in Rye Brook. TOPS members work to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. For further information, visit www.tops.org or call 203-863-4444. Held Monday, May 5, 12 and 19.

Newly Diagnosed With Breast Cancer Support Group: For newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer who are seeking information and support. Eight-week program held Mondays from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Smilow Specialty Physician Suite on the third floor of Greenwich Hospital’s Watson Pavilion. Initial consultation required. Self-Hypnosis Skills for Cancer Patients:. Learn from Kathleen Conway, a nurse and cancer counselor who has advanced training in hypnosis and is a clinical member of the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis. Held Mondays from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Initial consultation required. To register, call 203-863-3704.

Den for Grieving Kids: A nondenominational peer support center providing a safe, caring environment to help families cope with loss. Children ages 3 to 17 and their parents are grouped according to age or type of loss. Mondays, May 5 and May 19. Also offered Wednesdays, May 7 and May 21. Runs 6:30 to 8 p.m. Initial appointment required. For more information, call 203-655-4693.

The Nurse Is In: A nurse is on site to take blood pressure readings and answer health questions from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., at the Byram Shubert Library. Held on Tuesday, May 6. Also held from 10 a.m to noon at the Greenwich Hospital Cafeteria Atrium on Tuesdays May 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Music and Meditation: Music therapist Dr. Amy Zabin guides deep relaxation using crystal singing bowls, flute, guitar and guided imagery. Held from 12:30 to 1 p.m. in the Greenwich Hospital chapel. Walk-ins welcome.
