Former U.S. Women's Soccer Star Talks About Sports Concussions In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Briana Scurry, a former goalkeeper for the U.S. women’s soccer team, will be the speaking to area youth athletes and their parents at a Soccer Inspiration and Concussion Education event on Thursday, May 1.

This night of soccer inspiration and concussion education will be held at BlueStreak Headquarters 80 Largo Drive, Stamford, from 7 to 8 pm. Scurry will share the joys of soccer and her struggles with concussions. T.J. Quinn investigative reporter from ESPN will speak about his youth sport experience and about being a youth sport coach for his kids.

Several area youth athletes will speak. At the end of the event, Scurry will hand out 20 pre-signed balls to children to raise funds to cover event expenses. Parents are encouraged to buy balls before the event. A suggested donation of $75 for a soccer ball signed by Scurry, with the child’s name.

There will also be an intimate meet and greet with Scurry after the event from 8:15 to 9 p.m. at BlueStreak for up to six families. Scurry will sign autographs for children on photos that will be provided. Cookies will be served. The suggested donation is $125 for up to five family members.

Earlier that afternoon, there will be a quiet, supportive chat session for concussed athletes to meet Scurry and Norwalk’s Katherine Snedaker at 3 p.m. at a location to be announced. Snedaker is the founder of several concussion organizations,  PinkConcussions.com, SportsCAPP.com, which provides youth sports concussion education for players, coaches and parents, and TheConcussionConference.com which offers concussion “Return to School” training for school nurses and school staff.

The event is sponsored by Shoreline Soccer Club for its members but welcomes the general public to attended. Please pre-register for the events online.
