Easton Students at Barlow Win Leadership Awards

EASTON, Conn. — Two rising seniors at Joel Barlow High School from Easton are this year's winners of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education CABE Student Leadership Awards.

School principal Thoman McMorran handed out certificates at Tuesday night's Easton Redding Region 9 Board of Education meeting to Nicole Sherwood and Stephen Dreznick. Both are class council officers. Sherwood has also run fundraisers for the school and community, and Dreznick has tutored inner city children from Bridgeport and plans to start a new tutoring program in Bridgeport during his senior year at Barlow.

At Tuesday night's meeting, the board approved its Internet policy. The policy mandates students follow the guidelines or have their use of the Internet restricted on school computers.

The policy states that acceptable use of the Internet includes research, instructional activities, electronic mail and collaborative learning to solve problems.

Students are forbidden to use the Internet for gambling, harassing or bullying, inappropriate or abusive language, violating copyright law and personal political activity.

McMorran said all student use of the Internet is monitored by a state-provided Internet pipeline.
