“I could not be more pleased to have Stamford corporate citizens’ key support, which allows us to resume the longstanding tradition of celebrating our nation’s birthday in such a festive way,” Mayor Michael Pavia said in a city release.
Helping the city cover the cost of the fireworks will be S.L. Green Realty Corp., Garden Homes Management and Fairway Market, and the barge is being provided by O&G Industries. The city budgeted $50,000, with the sponsors making up the difference.
The fireworks are scheduled to begin at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. They will be accompanied by music that can be heard at Cummings as well as on 1400 WSTC-AM. The rain date will be July 5.
Stamford Police Department has issued the following street closures and traffic restrictions for the fireworks:
? No parking on either side of Shippan Avenue from Wallace Street to Magee Avenue intersection as of 3 p.m.
? No parking on the left side of Iroquois, Wampanaw and Rippowam roads as of 3 p.m.
? No parking on the south side of Myrtle Avenue from the intersection with Elm Street to 162 Myrtle Ave. as of 3 p.m.
? At 8 p.m. the intersection of Shippan and Magee avenues will be closed to southbound traffic with resident-only access at that time. At 8:30 p.m. Magee Avenue will be closed to traffic.
? At 9 p.m. Shippan Avenue from Wallace Street north will become one way, with both lanes going northbound. Magee Avenue will have two lanes going northbound as well.
? Traffic exiting Shippan Point will be directed north onto Magee Avenue and west onto Jefferson Street (Urban Transitway) for access to Canal Street, Atlantic Street, Washington Boulevard, and I-95.
? Traffic exiting Cummings Park via Shippan Avenue will be directed north onto Shippan Avenue to access Elm Street, Myrtle Avenue, I-95, and East Main Street.
? Traffic exiting Cummings Park via Soundview Avenue will utilize Soundview Avenue or Willowbrook Avenue to Cove Road.
