The Darien Y is the largest provider of special needs programs in the Darien community, with an annual participation rate of over 600 people. There are classes in cooking, art, fitness, yoga, and martial arts and aquatics programs. There is even a girls club for kids, teens and young adults. Last year the Darien Y provided $400,000 in funding for special needs programs, with money raised from donations and fundraisers.

This annual event was founded by Pio Bruzzese, whose son, Vincent, was diagnosed with autism. For the past eight years, Vincent has participated in many special needs programs at the Darien Y, where he has had the opportunity to interact with children of different abilities.

“It is through this fundraiser that we hope to build on this wonderful foundation that has been created at the Darien YMCA to provide a setting where children with all different abilities can be respected for who they are and feel part of their community and wider society,” Bruzzese said.

The golf scramble event will be held at Griffith E. Harris Golf Club in Greenwich and involves breakfast, an 18-hole golf tournament, and a luncheon. Sponsorships are available at the $150, $1,000 and $2,000 level. Details about sponsorships and the event are on the Darien YMCA website at www.darien-ymca.org.
