STAMFORD, Conn. -- Jim Ziolkowski, founder of the nonprofit organization BuildOn, will launch his new book, "Walk in Their Shoes: Can One Person Change the World?" at the Ferguson Library in Stamford on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m.

About 20 years ago, Ziolkowski was being groomed for a corporate job and a promising career. But during a backpacking trip in Nepal, he realized that a single act of generosity could make a world of difference in the lives of impoverished people.

Ziolkowski gave up the course his life had taken and founded the nonprofit BuildOn, an organization that brings education to inner-city teens throughout the world and transforms them into community service leaders.

His journey is detailed in the memoir, which tells the story of the early of struggles of launching BuildOn and the world-wide effects the organization has had on the lives of countless young people.

Under Ziolkowski’s leadership, BuildOn volunteers have contributed more than 850,000 hours of community service, and the organization has constructed more than 430 schools worldwide, in the South Bronx, Detroit, Chicago, Oakland, Haiti, Senegal, Nicaragua and Nepal.

To attend this event, RSVP to Kathleen Atkins at 203 585-5390 or by Sept. 13. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
