In "Beau Jest," by James Sherman, Sarah Goldman is a Jewish girl dating WASP executive Chris Cringle. Her parents want her married to a Jewish boy, so she hires an escort service for a Jewish man to introduce to her parents. Bob Schroeder is sent to play the 'Jewish boyfriend' and convinces her parents -- but the story doesn't end there.
"I'm a sucker for a good ethnic, romantic comedy - guess that's why I enjoy our 'Mulberry Street' series -- and 'Beau Jest' is another great one," said Lou Ursone, Curtain Call executive director and producer for his show. "It's a fun story with great characters and is a very real situation.".
Ursone said he is excited to be working with director Julie Bell Petrak of South Salem, N.Y., for the first time. "I've known Julie as an exceptional actress - I've seen her in a number of stage presentations and I have appeared on screen with her too. She has come to directing in the past few years and I'm very glad she's here with us at Curtain Call - she's in great demand and we're fortunate her schedule allowed," Ursone said.
This ensemble cast, most of whom are new to Curtain Call, includes Christopher Beaurline of New Canaan; Tom Costraggini of Stamford; Mat Young of Norwalk; Patrick Duffy of Greenwich; Marci Stearns of Bedford, N.Y.; and Lynette Victoria of Bridgeport. Costume design is by Christine Mallardi of Norwalk, with production design by Peter Barbieri Jr. of Fairfield.
